Southern Water is asking residents of Eastbourne and the surrounding area to share feedback on odours within the community. We monitor and record odour reports to help us understand, trace, and reduce unwanted smells from wastewater treatment and other possible sources.
The information you provide (date, time, location, and type of odour) is reviewed by our site staff as reports are received. Our operations team will carry out an odour trajectory assessment that combines your location details with local weather data — such as wind direction, speed, and atmospheric conditions — to help identify the potential source.
Findings from these community odour reports are reviewed regularly by Southern Water and shared with the local Environmental Health team and Council members to guide ongoing odour reduction efforts. This information helps us make continual improvements to minimise odours from both the Wastewater Treatment Works and nearby industrial activities.
